Purpose
Provide calming and enjoyable watercolor and acrylic painting projects for senior citizens and use their artwork to design puzzles and games for seniors with dementia and other cognitive disorders.
Senior Art Project

Photos to Art
The instructor converts color photos into black and white images.
2. Painting Class
Seniors use watercolor and acrylic paint to colorize the images.
3. Puzzle and Game Design
The instructor works with seniors to use artwork from the painting class to design puzzles and games for cognitively impaired residents of nursing homes, assisted living facilities and memory care centers. Design activities will start in spring 2026.
2024-25 Project Results
Painting classes were held at 17 senior activity centers across east Alabama and west Georgia.

Project Costs
Expenses for each project run around $300-$500. These include the cost of instructor travel, printer and art supplies, and puzzle and game manufacturing.
Student Opportunities
We will provide both volunteer and paid opportunities for area university students by the end of 2027.
